Fellow Sea Scouters,
It's me again, and this time I will be discussing the Top Gun Expierence
that was held in the D.C. area June 27-July 5. It was a great expierence
to attend and encourage anyone interested in the program to attend.
We stayed in officer's quarters on Andrew's Air Force Base, just outside of
Washington. For seven days myself, 10 scouts, and four adults from all
over the nation visited many naval facilities all over the D.C. area. Some
of the visits included Naval Space Command in Dalgreen Va., and the U.S.
Naval Acadamy in Annapolis Md., and a Marine Corps parade in the oldest
Marine barracks in the nation, they were great to see.
We soaked up local color of the nation's capital, and were able to meet our
congressional representitives and talk with them about scouting for a
little bit. We were a part of the honor guard at a wreath ceremony at the
Navy Memorial, afterwards we went to a small reception at the memorial with
numerous naval commanders, and government officals, and the Cheif Scout
Exc., Jerry Ratcliff.
Most of us took a historical hike of the nation's capitol and earned a
historic trails medal. It was quite a long hot, and testing day. I for
one found that there was much more in D.C. than I thought, and I work there
in the summer on the Hill !!!
I learned so much about our nations naval services, and traditions and
respect for all serving in the armed forces. It was an very educational
affair, and I will never forget the friends I made those few days. Thank
you Top Gun 1 for and unforgettable week.
