Seascout-Net Mail Archive for June of 1999: Top Gunnery
Tue, 29 Jun 1999 20:56:33 -0400
This is an update on on the two crews attending Top Gun this week in
Sunday was arrival day at Andrew Air Force Base Naval Air Facility and
Monday began with Physical Training--our Sea Scouts made some noise and
raised some sweat--cool, considering that the Sea Scouts from California
thought it was 3a.m. when they rolled out of the sack.
Trip to USNA--saw the crypt of John Paul Jones and the museum--that was
so cool. Went cruising on a YP--that was cooler. Did experiments in
Naval Academy labs, including wind tunnel tests and nuclear
reactor--definitely the coolest. Chowed on crabs in Annapolis.
Tuesday: PT seemed even earlier, and not just for the west coast
sailors. But these Sea Scouts are tough.
Pictures taken and vists with Members of Congress and Senators, personal
tour of the U.S. Capitol.
Placed a wreath at the U.S. Navy Memorial in honor of those in the sea
services who gave the last full measure to the nation. Greeted by the
Chief Scout Executive and the Admiral in charge of the Navy Memorial.
Saw a great film called "At Sea" about life aboard an aircraft
carrier--awesome visuals and sound effects from an F-14 Tomcat launching
from the catapult---must be MHX--the walls shook.
Hobnobbing with admirals, the Secretary of the Navy, and the Chair of
the House Armed Services Committee. Not a bad day, but PT comes around
again in the morning....and so does a trip to the Dahlgren Space Center
and a shot at conquering the Quantico Marine Base obstacle course....
(Yawn) Good Night.
