Seascout-Net Mail Archive for April of 1999: ShipMaster Database
Tue, 13 Apr 1999 12:36:22 -0700 (PDT)
Dear Sea Scout net:
The database is ready for download! Our ship has been
using it now for a couple of weeks and we are already
using some of the reports on our web site. There are
many forms and reports which I hope you will find
ShipMaster tracks data for youth and adults. It
includes all Sea Scout advancement requirements and
subrequirements, dues, medical data, and more. Forms
and reports can easily be converted to HTML for web
site use. A detailed README file is included in the
"Tables" tab to set the database up for your ship
after loading the file into Access 97. ShipMaster will
not work with Access 95 (version 7) or below. This is
a self-extracting zip file (500 KB) that, once
unzipped, is run with MS Access 97. Click on the link
below to download the file from the national Sea Scout
web site. It should take about 2 minutes or so
depending on the speed of your connection.
After downloading, open the directory you saved it to
and double click on the file name to unzip it. After
that it's ready to be used by MS Access.
I intend to upgrade the database in the future with a
complete financial system to handle invoicing and
payments, and to add more forms and reports. Perhaps
you would like to help. If you ceate anything that
would be useful to add, just send it to me and I'll
include it to the next version.
I have posted and will keep updated, information about
the database on our "Resources for Other Ships" page
on our ship's web site.
Yours in Sea Scouting,
Commodore, Pine Burr Area Council
Skipper, Sea Scout Ship 210
