To All regarding the age issue:
As we can see from this most interesting debate I would suggest the
Some will (or have been) accepteing participation by under aged (and
grade) crew members and some have not.
Most are in favor of a National policy change, and some are not.
For those that are doing so already, or those that are considering it,
it is of primary importance that it be done in a manner acceptable to
National and I believe the dominent issue is liability.
For all male participants I can see no reason why National would
object if the crew members were registered Scouts. For females, (as per
a former contribution by Kathy Wickford), invoking the help and support
of the Local GS Council might be just as easy.
I believe National would "go to the wall" to protect the integrity of a
volunteer. I do not beileve it is prudent to make it more difficult for
them by not doing it right from the beginning.
With all the very good reasons for doing so, National may well
entertain a policy change. Those in favor should continue to "lobby"
for it. In the meantime let's establish alternatives that are
acceptable, and abide by them.
