Last night Albatross hosted a firstnighter. We sent out 85
invitations,10 were returned for bad address, and we had 5 show up.
Looks like all 5 are truly interested. Each are 15 and all turned out
to be current Scouts (a little surprising considering the source of the
names was not Scouting?!), and most expressed some thoughts of leaving
their Troops. Seemed most wanted more "mature" experience, basically
done all that the troop had to offer.
Maturity is the real factor here. Like Jack Durish (and the rest of the
list no doubt) I have known my share of 30 year old children as well as
many very mature 14 year olds. So age really has little to do with it.
We deal with about 3 school districts here. Two consider 9th grade as
High School and the third is flirting with it. Don't know of any in our
area taking 8th into High School.
