Great take on the silent service. Even visitors to submarines can recognize
of which you write. Took a Navy League cruise on USS QUEENFISH from Pearl
Harbor to Kona, Hawaii on the boat's first tour to the neighbor islands.
Later, on USS TUNNY, my then 15 year old daughter got a chance to dive the
boat. Spent lots of Navy League time on USS SAN FRANCISCO, too. And took our
SSS SEA URCHIN shipmate on board USS HONOLULU last month. If you think that
today's modern submarine is uncomfortable, I invite you to visit the Pacific
Submarine Museum at Pearl Harbor, next to the Arizona Memorial and USS
MISSOURI. There you can board USS BOWFIN, the Pearl Harbor Avenger, a W.W.II
diesel boat. Now that's small!!!
