Fellow Sea Scouters:
I apologize if I was unclear in my previous message. We are NOT
for suggestions for fundamental changes to the Sea Scouting program. We are l
looking for recommendations for corrections or changes to the Sea Scout Manual
(currently called the Sea Exploring Manual). If you have such
please send them to me OFFLINE (that means NOT ON SEASCOUT-NET), in writing,
with very specific information about what you think needs to be added or
revised. If revisions are in order, please send a photocopy of the page(s)
involved along with very clear, specific recommendations for revision. Please
don't expect that I will do the legwork to pull together the information you
requested. My address is 6148 Llanfair Drive, Columbia, MD 21044-3829 USA.
As to the item below, we have previously discussed this suggestion
extensively both on and off list and I can tell you that there is ZERO
on the National Sea Scouting Committee, and extremely little interest off it,
in returning to the use of the term 'Coxswain.' We did add a parenthetical
reference to it in the current printing to the Sea Exploring Manual. Nothing
more will be added. If local Ships wish to use the term, they are more than
welcome to, but the term will NOT be nationally mandated. The officially
sanctioned term will remain 'Crew Leader.'

While I doubt this is an option, I hope it is NOT done. I mean, really,
has anyone advocating this conferred with youth on the issue? I can't see
any youth member saying "Yeah, guess what guys, I became a Coxswain today!"
