Congratulations to the organizers and participants in the 33rd annual
Henry I Nygard Regatta in Southern Maryland. As always, there was a great
spirit of friendly competition and fellowship present at the event.
Speaking for S.S.S. Columbia Ranger, our Ship had a great time and will
look forward to participating again next year. Hats off to Commodore Doug
Yeckley, Skipper Nygard, and their staff for a job well done.
A special note should be made for an unusual recognition presented at
the Nygard Regatta. Mike Meredith of S.S.S. Sea Devil (Bowie, MD) received
BSA's Medal of Merit for is actions in saving an inexperienced kayaker last
summer at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Very few heroism medals of any sort
are presented in any given year, and it's wonderful to see a Sea Scout
receive such a high visibility recognition as the Medal of Merit. More
will be forthcoming in the next issue of "The Telegraph," Northeast
Region's Sea Scouting newsletter.
