Welcome to the net. If you don't mind me saying, it would seem as though you
have run aground on the banks of the Hudson, West Point? I can make those
jokes. I spent 31 years in the Army, (a very short stint at USMAPS in '62)
then on for 10 years enlisted and 21 years commissioned. I retired as an LTC.
Got interested in Sea Scouts shortly after retirement when I was a District
Commissioner - we were losing 25% of our scouts every year. I thought Sea
Scouts would give them an alternative. It didn't, but that is a long story.
I started a ship in the mountains of NC about 1and a half years ago. We are
making some progress, but never fast enough.
We have had no real sails yet, some pool work at the Y and whitewater rafting.
Tried to put together a ski trip on the premis that it was nothing but frozen
water. We'll try again this winter.
I'm heading to Chile for the 19th World Jamboree. Will they let any cadets
go. the cost is reasonable, only $1450 plus airfare for staff. All of the
leader positions are filled already.
Hope we can swap more e-mail. I know you're pretty busy.
Yours in Scouting,

Area code in the midst of changing new one will be 828, should be able to use
it now, but folks have reported problems.
Skipper SES 758 (758 is the hull number of the USS Asheville. I'm hoping to
produce a Quartermaster in the next couple of years and get them on a cruise
with the Asheville, she is currently home ported in Pearl Harbor.)
