INSURANCE - STRAIGHT SCOOP
Fri Mar 20 07:41:49 1998
I can't seem to get any straight information from the BSA Council, so I'll
take it to the pros ;). Could **someone** please give me the straight gouge
on the marine insurance programs / policies available to SE?
I'm especially interested in insurance held by other SESs for larger (65'
and up) boats. Please provide specifics for comparison (coverage, costs,
size / age of boat, etc.) We have an 80' former Navy Yard Patrol Boat,
currently owned by a private foundation. They want to form a separate
foundation just for the boat. We need to try to find the best deals for
insurance for the YP, as well as a couple of smaller craft which are in the
wings for donation to the program.
You'll note that I'm an USNSCC officer as well as a SE Skipper. While we
(USNSCC) have a strong program with the USN / USCG, our program is just not
designed (unfortunately) for the ownership of boats. Therefore, we've got
the best of both worlds (IMHO) through joint-chartering with BSA.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated. I'm also interested in
learning more from the SE programs which have formed separate foundations
for the purpose of boat ownership. **Any** documentation which I can
plagarize (er, uh, I'm mean use as a reference), please attach to an email
to < firstname.lastname@example.org > or FAX to (352) 490-5147. We have until the
middle of summer to get it together; otherwise, the foundation will be
selling the boat.
