Fellow Sea Scouters:
The gentleman who was my mentor when I first got into Sea Scouting some
twenty years ago, A.J. Callner, told me that there are 3 basic rules for
conducting yourself in Scouting groups:
1. Live the Scout Law (As a friend of mine is fond of saying, "Scouting
isn't something I do. Scouting is something I am.")
2. Never talk about the Civil War.
3. Never discuss politics.
I work across the street from the Capital Building, so politics is a fact
of life. It isn't, however, a part of this list. Let's please refrain
from making comments about our elected officials, good, bad, or indifferent
on Seascout-Net. OK?

Your comments on the God & Gay issues are encouraging. There is hope
indeed as long as there are many others like you who are aware of the value
of the BSA traditional position on these issues.
You mentioned Clinton as the Honorary President of the BSA. That's a
disgrace. How long would any of us last as leaders if we had conducted
ourselves in such a manner. Perhaps the BSA should be the first to impeach.
You suggest the possibility of the inexorable adoption of ultra
liberal values (anti-God, pro-gay) in the BSA. It can happen if there are
enough of us that assume it to be inevitable, but I don't believe it is.
