The 1st nighter program described by Katie Sanders of the Columbia Ranger
(SES 361) sounds a lot like what the North Star (SES 90) does, with one
exception. We usually do wear our dress uniforms - blue or white
depending on season and weather. Maybe we'll try one without uniforms
and see what results we have?
The question that I have is: How do you get people to come out for a
first nighter program? Ship 90 has probably tried most of the methods
that will be suggested, and unfortunately we've been less that successful
at getting any turnout. Hopefully, there will be one or more good ideas
for publicizing a first nighter that we haven't tried yet.
The question was asked a while ago about ways to recruit new members.
There were a lot of good answers; and they were published in the recent
edition of the Telegraph. Don't rely on a first nighter as your only
