Yes you can. In fact you can belong to more than one BSA unit of any kind.
For example, Boy Scouts can also be Explorers. You only have to pay one
national registration fee ($7.00) no matter how many units you belong to. On
the application for the second unit just write "multiple" on the bottom to
avoid paying the additional fee. At recharter time, your leader should circle
a piece of data on the recharter form to indicate that your fees are paid in a
different unit. You will have to pay any unit dues, however.
As a Boy Scout leader and an Explorer leader, I had a small problem. I was
"paid" in the Boy Scout unit and a "multiple" in the Explorer unit, so I got
Scouting magazine but not Exploring. So that I would get both magazines I
broke down and paid both national registration fees.
