I'm new to the net but not to Sea Exploring (Ship is 38 years, SES. 104
Passaic Valley Council, Wayne NJ)
Regarding new members, the basic principle always works...A Quality
Program!! If its fun the kids will swarm. Works for adults too.
Other adornments help to strengthen the foundation e.g.:
PUBLICITY: We have invited a feature writer from the Newark Star Ledger
for a weekend cruise. Kids don't mind seeing the picture in the paper.
(vanity is alive and well)
SURPRISE ACTIVITIES: Unannounced, we got the kids swimming in Packanack
Lake...in the middle of winter...fully clothed...in survival suits. Part
of a 4 part training on survival incl. subjects on hypothermia, drown
proofing, CPR and survival on land, supplemented by tapes from Univ. of
Alaska (Excellent! I could be talked into copies)
BE INFECTOUS: Undaunted enthusiasm, [yours is obvious] will spread like
an epidemic. Seek every opportunity to spread the good word. Clubs such
as Rotary, Kiwanus, Optimist are always looking for speakers.
There is much more but I don't want to hog all your time.
Glad to meet you (all)
