Mike Walton's question

Mike Walton asked me:
>What happened there and why wasn't he or she appointed Regional Boatswain??<
>Ed's comment needed a little more explaination...
>Part of the National Exploring Conference is to elect/appoint a slate of
>national and regional officers that along with their adult counterparts,
>would serve as leaders of the Exploring program for the next year or two.
>For a youth to be elected by his or her peers as a Regional officer and
>later to be "turned down" is NOT "democracy in action", as this is a part of
>the Conference's objective. That's my concern, both as an Exploring leader
>as well as a former national youth and later adult officer.<
Back in 1988, as best I can recall, the "powers that be" did not want to have
Regional Bos'ns. Fortunately, that attitude has changed now. Maybe the
negative critique I gave in my followup to National helped change it. Thanks
for your concern.
I remain interested in hearing other feedback to Bill Sills' original
question other Sea Scout/Explorer experiences with National Exploring
Conferences. Bill, if you receive any off-net please share them with me
