I agree with Dan's statement that the relative merits of a unit should be
dependdent upon what the youth get out of them. I also agree that ships
should not have to conform to one specialty. It is clear that some youth
would never go for a traditional program. It is great that there is a
variety of styles within Sea Scouts so we can meet the needs of a larger
number of youth.
The reason I appose being labeled quasi-military is because it is a very
limited decription. It only decsribes the uniform we wear. If we must be
described by a certain specialty, "Traditional" is a better choice. Yes,
we do some drill...but we don't carry riffles!
I also agree that any kind of a Sea Scout ship is better than no ship.
I guess we should all try to be a little more accepting towards other ships
