The West Marine store in our area provides a 20% discount, donates
some items of excess inventory and is extremely supportive of Sea
Scouting. We also receive many discounted and quite a few free items
from our local chart store. Our area marinas, our refrigeration, glass,
hardware, engine, and machine shops have also gone out of their way to
I believe that most maritime interests are in concert with the
aims of Sea Scouting. Certainly, that's our experience over the decades.
If they are made a part of the Sea Scout Family, they'll respond
accordingly. Courtesy, Friendship and Decency beget the same.
The key to beginning your relationships is for the Suppliers to
know you exist, that your boats are kept in a seamanlike manner and to
see your KIDS in action. Also, remember the salesman's maxim, You must
ask for the "order". Make a reasonable request for help and you have
every likelihood of receiving it.
