The Naval Sea Cadet Corps is nationally sponsored by the Navy League of the
United States (NLUS) in Arlington, VA. NLUS provides financial support to
maintain our small staff of 10 or so paid employees, including four Field
Representatives. On the local level, Sea Cadet units are supported by
NLUS Councils, and increasingly, by other patriotic or fraternal
organizations such as the FRA, VFW, DAV, Elks, Eagles, etc. In many cases,
there is not a NLUS Council locally available to sponsor a unit.
I've had limited exposure to the CGAux, other than taking their Boating
Skills and Seamanship courses, but have had several of their "officers"
participate in Sea Cadet training on the unit level. These men and women
are especially valuable since they represent, in the minds of the Cadets,
both the Coast Guard and the civilian boating world.
