Veerle, et al:
This is a response to Veerle Braughton (and for general consumption).
He indicated that he had registered for the Seabadge Conference being
offered by the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC) Sea Exploring Committee
at camp Strake, Conroe, Texas, in November, 1997. He asked if the
course was going to be held.
Yes, it is, and there are still a few openings (but not many). Others
interested in participation should apply soon. The staff is starting
the 100 day planning countdown.
I attended the SHAC Fleet meeting on 8/20/97 and the topic of
notification of participants came up. For some reason I didn't
understand (possibly shortage of envelopes), there is no planned
"applicant notification of acceptance." "Go Figure!" You should get
mailings about details a month in advance. However, you could verify
your status by contacting SHAC Commodore "Weird Dan" Wilson at the
following EMAIL address:
Dan could also help sign-up others interested in the course. The SHAC
Fleet does a pretty reasonable job with the course. Camp Strake is a
Boy Scout camp, but they have a good conference facility, with large,
well equipped meeting rooms, food service, etc., roughly equivalent to
doing it at a Holiday Inn. Adequate... Not great, not bad... but,
Excellent as Scout camps go. It will probably be worth the effort to
go to the conference.
