Received a note from Rob McKnight about contacting you . I am the Waiapu
Area Water Actitivies Adviser, and look after all the Sea Scout Leader
training, boat surveys and safety aspects of sea scouting in my area.
I have been involved with Sea Scouts for fifteen years and started at
Westshore Sea Scouts as a leader working my way up to my present position.
Im also involved with the local coastguard unit as a skipper.
My area extends from the East Cape in the north to central Hawkes Bay in
the south. Im situated in Napier which is on the east coast of the North
Island. I have three Sea Scout Groups in my area . They are Monowai and
Tainui in Gisborne, and Westshore in Napier. The City of Gisborne is about
three hours drive north of Napier and is also on the coast.
In total there are about two hundred Sea Scouts and twenty five leaders in
the three Groups. Westshore have four 5.2 metres cutters, three
Sunburst sailing dinghys, a small rescue craft and twelve canoes. They are
based on an inner harbour. The boat shed is underneath their headquarters
and they have a jetty just outside the boatshed. The
Gisborne Troops are based on the local river. They each have their own
boatsheds and launch down ramps.
In October we are holding the Ex-Navalmens Regatta in Gisborne and will
have events in rowing, sailing and swimming, held over a weekend .
We would be interested in having a web page on your site and I could
organise more detail, photos etc. Also we would be interested in being
involved in the Seascout-Net.
Waiapu Area Water Actitives Adviser.
