okay, i think i'm the one responsible for the "join sea scouts, get hurt"
comment, so i think perhaps i should explain myself before everyone gets mad
at marc scimonelli, to whom that comment was credited. it's a ship joke. we
all say it occasionally, but we haven't had anyone get hurt in a ship
activity since i joined, and the only incident i can remember hearing about
kids getting hurt on the belmonster happened in the early 70's. (two kids
took a 20 foot sloop to benicia w/o filing a departure report. their bodies
were found a week later.) anyways, the "join sea scouts get hurt" motto arose
from the nature of our crew. we all test our limits a bit more than we
probably should, but we have the training and experience to prevent it from
turning into disaster.(knock on wood) and we try to be good while we're on
sea scout activities (the ones with potential for danger, at least).
hoping i didn't just jinx myself,
