Fellow Sea Scouters:
This is my first day back from the 1997 National Jamboree in Virginia.
Our staff of 38 did a terrific job of introducing approximately 18,000 of
our closest friends to Scouting's best kept secret, Sea Scouting. We
recruited about 60 new Ship organizers in 46 councils, and about 1,000
Scouts and adults left us with their names and addresses expressing
interest in joining already existing Ships. Your local councils will be
notified in the next 10 days or so. I believe the experience was a
positive one for all.
While a list of people who helped with the exhibit could never be
complete (since so many helped out in so many different ways), I would like
to take a minute to thank the following members of Seascout-Net who
contributed in some way to the planning of the exhibit:
Jim Elroy (FL)
Martin Flynn (NJ)
Jimmie Homburg (TX)
Bill James (NJ)
Joel Larkin (VA)
Rod Mortensen (CA)
Robin Ouellette (MD)
Ron Sunker (TX)
Walt Whitacre (AL)
Doug Yeckley (MD)
If you see any of these individuals, please take a moment to thank them on
behalf of the rest of us. There efforts really paid off.
I'd also like to thank the participants of Seascout-Net for your help
with filling in the gaps in information (particularly Ship information) in
our database and on our web site. We had 2 computers with snapshots of the
web site and they were nearly always occupied with Scouts and leaders
wanting to find out more about Sea Scouting.
A fuller report will follow but, as noted above, it's my first day back.
My email inbox is quite full and I'm trying to work through all of it as
rapidly as I can. I've taken care of the approximately 40 list server
messages already this morning, and will begin answering list and personal
messages as time permits. It may be a few days before I get caught up, so
please be patient.
