Texas enjoys a wonderful climate for year round sailing and the San
Jacinto Girl Scout Council (SJGSC) has used more than the crumbs of
their cookies to build Camp Casa Mare. It is a FANTASTIC facility
with new bunk houses for several hundred people, including air
conditioned leader housing. They sail year round (almost) on about
40 Sunfish and 20 other boats.
As they progress, the girls become really excellent sailors and are
offered an opportunity as older MARINER Scouts to go through a
progression of structured advancement leading to Sloop Skipper
rating. Three of my 15 members are Skipper rated Mariners,
including one who is a former Ship Boatswain of my ship and
currently the Commodore (I think they call it) of the SJGSC Fleet.
