The news that you're going to have a Quartermaster is wonderful! I
hope to have one and three Eagles this summer. I just attended a
Quartermaster Bridge of Honour for Eagle Scout Walter Adrian Zdazinsky,
Bosns Mate of Skipper Jack Pierson's SSS Missiuri (361). St. Louis Area
Squadron Commodore Lyle Hamilton, former National Committeman and East
Central Region Vice Commodore Donald Lang were part of the ceremony. I
was there to pitch Central Flotilla's SEA and Seabadge and to "show the
flag". I always go at the invitation of St. Lousi Area Squadron. They
make the Bridge of Honour a "big deal" and puts an impressive imprimatur
on Quartermaster for the benefit of the recipient, fellow Sea Scouts and
their parents. These ceremonies leave a life long impression on our Sea
National Fleet Committee Member and Southern Flotilla Vice
Commodore Jimmie Homburg made a video tape of the Quartermaster Bridge
of Honour. She can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org She may not be
reachable for a week or so. One of my ships also made a video tape but
I'm such a poor record keeper/filer that it may be hard to locate. <VBG>
I can not believe that Bruce Johnson, National Fleet Committee
member and NE Flotilla COMO doesn't have tapes, scripts, etc. Take the
best of all of these and adapt them for the hall/room wherein your
ceremony will be held. Try to involve all of the Sea Scouts and
Explorers from your District/Division, etc. My advice is to make it a
ceremony beyond just your ship.
Similar to EAGLE, get letters from distinguished personalities.
Include a description of the award and its significance. Not everyone
knows about the Quartermaster Award <VBG>
Also, make video tapes of the Bridge of Honour. If you're at all
similar to me, make copies for organized ship committee members to
I hope the above is some help.
