Dear Skippers & Commodores:
Today, one of my loyal volunteers, Sue Larkin, Squadron Vice
Commodore for Program and 1st Mate, SSS Hathor (1), was awarded the
Presbyterian Church "God & Service Award". The 4H, Sea Scouts, her
church and her many friends were thrilled. It was a joyeous occasion and
celebrated Sue as well as her church and the Sea Scouts. She was totally
surprised and thrilled.
You can do the same for your volunteers. P.R.A.Y. of St. Louis,
MO. provides adult religious awards as well as their more familiar youth
programs. I keep a list on disc with the names, dates, accomplishments,
awards, etc. of all of the Sea Scouts and adults in my Sinnissippi
Squadron. I also try to maintain similar lists of the adult volunteers
and another of the Quartermasters in Central Flotilla.
Periodically, I review my lists to see who is eligible for Veteran
Awards, adult religious service awards, etc. Then, I send in Veteran
applications to their CSC and/or contact P.R.A.Y. for applications for
the adult award of their faith or follow the procedure for the other
This helps give the volunteers the recognition they deserve, keeps
Sea Scouting in the public eye and honours our COs and supporting
institutions. It's kind of a pain but the dividends are wonderful.
