A way that groups in Seattle often raise funds is by assisting with events.
For example, there is a local festival called Fishermans Fall Festival that is put on by a collection of business that are at the Port of Seattle's Fisherman's Terminal. We put on skill displays, do security at the head of docks to prevent energetic youth from running out and jumping off and have our boats on display. Other local groups help manage parking for local community fairs. The funds come from a grateful organization showing it's appreciation for your help. This (if you are clearly identifiable as Sea Scouts) is also a good way to raise community awareness of your existence or recruit if the event draws many recruit age youth. If you are known, these opportunities may come to you, if not you may have to go looking.
