Welcome aboard Joe
The SEAL pin is for the Sea Explorer Advanced Leadership training for scouts. This is a training program that follows (I believe) particular nationally approved script. So far I have only heard of it being offered on the East Coast, but is open to all (if you can get there), the cost is aprox $100. I haven't seen the outline for the course, but conversations about it indicate that it involves a week trip on a boat with regularly scheduled training.
This is not to be confused with the Navy Seals, who do something else entirely.
*SHAMELESS PLUG TIME*
Nor is it to be confused with S.A.L.T., or Sea explorer Advanced Leadership Training, which is the leadership training conference put on by the Nor Wester area (your are in it). This is a training put on by one of the councils in the area on a rotating basis, and this year is the weekend before Holloween in October at Scouters Mountain, Cascade Pacific Council, Portland Oregon.
This is an arrive Friday night, depart Sunday conference that has training for youth & adults. Cost is usually around $20, and there is normally a dance on Saturday night.
So, All ships in the NorWester Area (Cascade Pacific, Oregon Trails, Pacific Harbors, Chief Seattle & Mount Baker Councils plus those in Eastern Washington - sorry, I don't know the council names) mark October 24, 25 & 26 on your calendars now, it is always a good time
This is not meant to imply that other ships are not welcome - Any ships in BC interested in cross training?
P.S. (To all others on list) Is a description / outline / rules for putting on a SEAL training available anywhere?
