For those of you who were not aware there will be a Sea Explorer
Advanced Leadership Course on the Chesapeake Bay this summer from 12-19
July. The selection of the six Sea Explorers who will be participating
will be made on Wednesday, 16 April, from the applications received. So
if you have a nominee from your Ship, get his or her application in to
me. We have two former Quartermasters -- Jeff Murray and Kristen
Baine-- who will be conducting the course on the Chesapeake Bay with me.
This is another wonderful opportunity for our Sea Explorers.
Selectees must furnish their own transportation to Galesville,
Maryland. The cost of this course is $100.00, including food and course
materials. The course will be taught on a 44 ft power vessel -- The
LET'S FLY-- Flagship of the SES SEA DEVIL out of Bowie, Maryland.
If you need an application, send me an E-Mail at email@example.com or
mail me at 12409 Stirrup Lane, Bowie, MD 20715. Time is "a-ticking" so
Just a quick description of the course follows: The Boy Scouts of
America has a new Junior Leader Training Course and award. It is called
Sea Explorer Advanced Leadership Training (SEAL). This is a one week,
hard core leadership course that is conducted at sea. If you
successfully complete the course you will be awarded the SEAL Training
award, which is a silver pin with twin dolphins, to be worn on your
uniform. This course is a leadership course, not a seamanship course.
The course covers such topics as preparing, goal setting, organizing,
supervising, commanding, communicating, training, motivating and other
topics that will assist you in functioning as a leader in your Ship and
in life. To attend a SEAL class you must be a registered Sea Explorer.
You must be Ordinary Rank by 1 July, 1997 and you must study and have a
working knowledge of Chapter Five of the Sea Explorer Manual.
Yours in Sea Exploring/Scouting,
