Ahoy to all.
My name is Michael Cullimore, currently a new mate on SES 555, in
Tampa FL. We are a new ship only a couple of months old. I myself was a
Sea Explorer 24 years ago in Sacramento SSS 105 TRIDENT,and Stockton
WIN-DEE. Both boats were 63ft AVR's (Army Aircorps Rescue Vessels)
TRIDENT built at Stephens Brothers Yachts in Stockton CA during WWII,
WIN-DEE built at Miami Shipbuilding Co FL. also during WWII. Trident
originally had twin V-12 Hallscott's gas powered only about 1700 total
shaft HP also had strait line shafting 40+kts. WIN-DEE originally had
twin V-12 Allisons about 2500 shaft HP on vee-drives 50+kts. Both were
re-engined with twin GM 6-71's 10-12kts cheeper to operate!! It was
great fun back then ship meetings every week and work parties every
Saturday, it took alot of work to keep up those big wooden boats.
I joined at age 14 and left it at 19 YOA. I earned and was awarded the
Quartermaster award in 1972 with ship 105. At 19 I joined the Coast
Guard and have been moving all around the country for the last 23-1/2
years. I have been a Machinery Technician Senior Chief and now a Chief
Warrant Officer CWO4 Naval Engineer. I now feel that I am rooted down
here in Lakeland FL between Orlando and Tampa. I always wanted to get
back into sea exploring and by chance at work I saw a note in the plan
of the week about a new ship forming, I jumped at it. Are their any
Captain Sacto's out there. If you lived in Sacramento in 60,61,62,63 you
know what I mean.
Glad to be here!!!
