The numbering scheme (at least here in Canada) refers to the Charter.
My group is the 26th Ottawa Group. It supports Beavers, Cubs, Sea Scouts
and Sea Venturers. Each of these sections are also titled 26th. For
example, there is the 26th Ottawa Sea Scouts, or formally, Scouts Canada
- 26th Ottawa St. Matthew's Sea Scouts.
Scouts Canada is the WOS (World Organization of Scouting) charter member,
under whom we hold our charter.
We were the 26th group chartered within the City of Ottawa, Ontario,
Canada. Charter Numbers and City go together in Canada. As I understand
it, the Charter Number and the State go together within BSA.
St. Matthew's Anglican Church is our Sponsor. If St. Matthew's decides to
discontinue its sponsorship, the charter number is discontinued and will
not be used again.
If we really wanted a formal version of our name:
Scouts Canada, Ontario Council, National Capital Region, Chaudiere
Area, 26th Ottawa (St. Matthew) Scout Group.
