I just thought I'd point out that there is a Canadian nautical program
called SALT, which I think is based in Victoria, British Columbia. It's
pretty hard to come up with an original acronym these days. While I
don't personally mind if this program bears the acronym SEAL, I have to
admit that Navy SEAL was the first thing that sprang to my mind. I read
about to see what type of training was being offered.
I may as well introduce myself while I'm standing in the spotlight. My
name is Eric Rice and I am a mate aboard S.E.S 5190 Odyssey, a 90'
wooden yawl that is the pride all who have painted the hull or sanded
the brightwork. Yes, we sail her, too. Our post is located in the
Thea Foss waterway near downtown Tacoma, Washington. You can see some
photos of the Odyssey in one of our former youth's website at:
For work, I go to Boeing where I am an engineer on the Sea Launch
program. This is not a water-going taxi service, but rather a
water-going space launch service. It's a very interesting program and
you can check that out on the web also at:
I must now leave to go sailing! Happy boating to you all!
