The editorial sums up with two telling sentences:
'There is much to be admired about the Boy Scouts tradition and much
that is worth preserving. But the extended Boy Scout family needs to
save the organization from its present self-destructive and
This just about sums up what I said in my letter to council last week,
withdrawing my company's support indefinitely at the council level.
Scouting at the unit level, which I will continue to heavily support, will
just have to hang in there until this self-destructive path that started
with the 1978 internal memo can be reversed.
As someone said earlier, Scouting made me what I am and gave me my morals.
Right now, I'm quite embarrassed and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
