The so-called "Family Research Council" is a highly conservative group,
way to the right of BSA, and would probably say anything bad about the
current administration and the Democratic Party in general they can
find. AFAIK, They try to appear to be a "Friend" of BSA and speak on
BSA's behalf, even though BSA hasn't asked for nor desires their help.
Reading between the lines, someone in the Interior Department apparently
asked the Justice Dept. how to interpret the recent Supreme Court
decision vs. a recent anti discrimination Executive Order the President
signed (either as a CYA memo, or in an attempt to "get back at" the BSA
for it's "discriminatory" program - I don't know which). Justice asked
for more info, and an Interior Dept. bureaucrat sent out a memo asking
the entire dept. to provide info on what relationships exist between
Interior and BSA.
VP Gore has already said he would change NOTHING in relation to the BSA,
and President Clinton has not commented. Gov. Bush, of course, came out
strongly against the "Clinton-Gore plan to deprive BSA of federal
lands". politics as usual, and a tempest in a teapot.
