This reminds me of something my father told me about 20 years ago.
He had spent years studying the Watergate scandal. He told me
that the most amazing thing to him was that the most powerful
person on the planet was successfully stripped of power without
one shot being fired. The system, imperfect as it is, worked!
Most Scouts today will remember the impeachment of President
Clinton. Most of them know that if the Senate had voted
otherwise, then he would have been thrust from office. (If the
Scouts don't know the process, then we need to teach them.)
Just prior to the Senate vote, did any of us lose any sleep over
the notion that maybe the President would not leave office
peaceably if he were(was?) to be voted out? We should be very
