Once upon a time I, too, had a problem which put me on moderated status. It
took over a week to finally clear things up, and here's my understanding of
how this SCOUTS-L list works.
First, it's sort of an automated moderated list. That is, all messages to
the list from folks on un-moderated status are sent through to the whole
list without delay, until the 50-message/day limit is reached. Occasionally
the moderator, Jon, will monitor some of the posts to see if any of the
guidelines are being broken, at which time he'll step in and deal with the
"violation" however he pleases, depending on the violation.
However, I believe those occasions are becoming less occasional because
Jon's got this weird thing, called a "real job", which is taking much of his
time. He did enlist some help from Kyna, who was the actual person who
helped me out at that time, but her time is also limited. Also, this is
vacation time, so that could also affect personal response time.
I don't know how many list members there are now, but I wouldn't be
surprised if it numbered over a thousand. If only 10% had some problem
requiring Jon's assistance, that would still be over 100 problems to deal
with. Since this list is totally run in volunteer mode, I think a little
patience and understanding is in order.
So if you are experiencing the same problem as the original poster, maybe
you could find some kind soul to forward your message until things get

P.S. Bob, your posting on this subject actually came to me with an error,
"This message uses a character set that is not supported by the Internet
Service." Since your posts usually, if not always, come through without any
problems, maybe the original poster is sending in a different format other
than plain text?
