scouts-l Mail Archive for August of 2000: Problems getting heard on Scouts-L
Mon Aug 21 2000 - 14:37:27 CDT
As this is the second person who has e-mailed me personally in recent weeks
with this problem, I thought it might be helpful if the issue was shared
with the list. I remember similar problems in getting onto the list (yeah
yeah I know, too bad I was let on eventually <grin>) I surmise that we all
might be a bit unclear about how moderating is supposed to work. Does the
list need more moderators? Does the process need to be more clearly
explained (like when does the 3 ? week probation begin? when one signs on
to the list of when one first posts?) This person is very frustrated and I
hope one of our daily good turns might be to give him some help.
>Help! I am writing to you out of desperation. ?????. has been monitoring
the SCOUTS-L >list messages for a long time silently. When I did decide to
get my feet wet and send a short >message, I received the expected,
automated reply..."your message has been forwarded to a >moderator...".
After waiting patiently for a week or so, I sent yet another message,
realizing that >I had violated the protocol by not introducing myself to the
group formally. After waiting >another week or so, I tried yet a third time,
and a forth, etc. I then resorted to sending e-mails >directly to the
moderator identified. No response. I have now sent several messages to the
list >owner without any reply of any kind. I am appalled and more than a
little disappointed >in this >fruitless effort to communicate. It has been
several weeks now. I must assume that I am >doing >something wrong.
