I, along with many others (to include Bill Nelson) have followed and/or
participated in discussion in the "issues" group on this topic for years.
The argument has not changed, the logic has not changed. The issue has not
changed. The BSA position has not changed.
Some folks participating in the "issues" group 4 and 5 years ago were citing
instances of youth "turning in their Eagles" over this. That is their right.
It isn't new.
With the Dale decision there is significantly more publicity about BSAs
position than there has been in the past. There is also significantly more
activism now that it has received national and media attention.
I don't make, nor have the ability to influence, the policies of the BSA. My
job, as Scoutmaster, is to deliver the promise. The activists may do what
they wish. The BSA may, or may not, change its policy. I will do my best to
deliver the promise. And that's what we should all be doing.
To those who thought it appropriate to "boo" the youth, you have given me
another Scoutmaster minute.
