8:00am on April 1, 2000 was the opening of Sea Base 2001 reservations.
Our unit had a phone bank of 10 lines hitting redial beginning at
7:55am. We managed to get through in about 35 minutes and were in
before they went to the waiting list. I would recommend this technique
for any of the High Adventure base reservation processes (although the
last 2 trips - 1997 & 2000 - our unit has opted to tag along with the
council contingency to Philmont rather than try our own). Many units do
this without the phone bank, and in many cases get signed up multiple
times when more than one gets through. I suspect that's how they manage
to get so far down the waiting list.
As for other council run high adventure activities, I am aware of
Packard (Rocky Mountain Council?) and Laguna Beach (Rio Grande
Council?). Perhaps developing a comprehensive list would be useful.
With that in mind, please post any suggestions with any info and or
comments you might have to offer, especially the council, location and
contact info. I will compile a comprehensive list and post it back to
everyone in a week or so.
