Many councils will allow you to work through them to get business cards
printed. These will probably look a lot like those the professionals
use, but come in rather large lots. Many of my volunteer district and
council folks use this route. If the lots are too large for your
pocket, check out a local print shop, bringing a copy of your artwork,
or another card. They can copy the artwork and place it on an eight-up
sheet, can you say desk-top publishing, which can then go "out back" to
be copied onto 60# stock of your choice of color and texture and cut,
for an amazingly small cost.
My custom artwork costs me about $5, and then the shop charges me $0.25
per sheet of eight cards, copied and cut. This sort of operation is
great for trial runs of several different business card designs, and is
far cheaper than buying cards in lots of 500+.
