scouts-l Mail Archive for August of 2000: Re: What do you buy for an Eagle?

The very title set my teeth on edge. Wh have had problems where each
group of parents have wanted to embelish on the Court of Honor. Gifts
afterward etc. This got to the place where "significant" adults were
given gifts by the Eagle in addition to family and friends bringing him
gifts. One Scout (at the urging of his dad) announced that it was a
tradition for the Eagle to give the his mother a dozen red long stemmed
roses, one for each of the 21 merit badges. That was nice, but the next
Scout was poor - single crippled mom etc. He was distraught trying to
come up with the money for the roses -- a Scouter (not me) did his good
My feeling is that the embelishments on the ceremony should be letters,
scrap books, slide shows - personal and focused on the Eagle. No gifts
The presentation box, neckerchief etc. has been discussed before.
