Im sure this have been discussed in the past, but for my own knowledge, what
it the BSA policy on the boys playing football. I ask and never have gotten
a real answer. Some say throwing a football is ok but playing is not. If
anyone can clarify this for me I would greatly appriciate it.
There is always confusion on this because people sometimes can't be bothered
(or don't know how to) look it up in the Guide to Safe Scouting, where it
states (bold face, indicates policy): "Varsity football and interscholastic
or club football competition and activities are unauthorized activities."
What this means is that you can't field a team from your troop or district or
council to play football in any school, club, or other such league or game.
If your kids want to play football with each other, or with kids from another
troop on a campout, they can go ahead and do it-- but I recommend they go for
"touch" foootball or Capture the Flag instead for safety's sake.
