Sounds like you're really disgruntled. I may well understand what you're
feeling. Please note that what follows is _my_ assessment of *my* attitude.
In my case, the disquietitude(see me show off my new word of the day?) came
from a definite misunderstanding of the corporate structure of BSA. And my
personal lack of knowledge of G2SS, WOSM, and years of scouting history and
For some reason - maybe because the individuals at the council office tried
to be helpful to me when they had time from their primary duties - I took it
as my due that the council existed to serve me. Me, a super-concerned
grandparent\guardian\scouter-wannabe\parent-figger\not always reliable, at
However, when I was in the throes of wounded pride and hurt feelings, I
didn't care to read about organizational structures or Green Bar Bill. I
certainly didn't want some overthehill biddy soothing me with platitudes and
'This too shall pass.' Blah!
What I wanted was to shake the dust of my skirts and make a dramatic exit.
Probably saying something brilliantly scathing as I left in a great
demonstration of powerful indignation. And, in my overactive imagination,
all the other leaders would say, "Yeah, yeah!" Probably, some of them would
join me. The weak hearted would remain behind.
Oh, I'm sure I made a picture. Kind of like a 16-year-old who's not allowed
to drive until they pay for their own insurance. Yep. Kind of like that.
If you've read this far, and I'll bet you have, you know that I'm offering
you a way to deal with your very real upset. An old formula given to me by a
spiritually-focused, dear friend: Tragedy + Time = Humor.
I wasn't laughing when I felt betrayed, misunderstood, insulted. You're a
Scouter. We have a system. Presuming upon that system without investigating
its workings is a sure way to find all the brick walls. And I have the
scrapes to prove it.
One idea might be to find a mentor who would be able to listen (or read)
your concerns and offer feedback in sorting out what you need to deal with
all this. You may need a 3-day-downtime. You know, the old principle of 3
days from the problem, rise up and go at it again?
If I can be of service...
