Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO Training) will be out
this fall for trainers and be up for delivery in Spring. The course is a
one-day (NO overnight) intro to the whys and hows of Pack Camping. The
ideal candidate is a camping novice who holds no other jobs in the Pack.
The person gets trained, and then helps chair or plan 2 Pack campouts
per year. Training is in G2SS and basics.
Train-the-Trainer: The new syllabus is almost done. One person I
talked to said that she didn't think it changed enough. They added some
electronic media, but still spend a lot of time on how to use a
chalkboard, slide projector, etc. Just an opinion.
Wood Badge for all leaders is still in development. Something about
Councils not having the time, resources or materials for all the
necessary accomodations. We may not see the new one until at least Fall,
2001, as they continue to work out the bugs in pilot courses. In the
meanwhile, councils will be continuing the old syllabus for Spring.
The idea for "BSA Basic" is still being worked on. This is the
introductory course that everyone would do before they went to their
position-specific training. Day-Camp manuals and such are due to start
the revision process, adding in the Tiger Day Camp program and some
