My suggestion would be to consult the local forest service rangers.
If you have food in the cooler, you will have smell left over in the cooler
that could attract a bear. Given that many bears have already associated
coolers with food, you have two 'draws' for bears. Once you have a bear in camp,
he will start exploring. So my advice would be
to hoist the cooler the 10' above the ground.
