I have used a breakout of about $3/breakfast, $3/lunch, and $4/dinner as
the basis for what is collected per scout for meals. Most of the time,
this gives us a bit over, depending on how fancy the boys get. So for
your typical campout that would come up to $16.
I came at this by just figuring $10/day, and haven't spent much time
evaluating it (the parents and the troop treasurer aren't complaining, so
I've just let it run). Something to bear in mind is that food prices can
vary quite a lot from region to region, so you need to consider that in
your figuring. Also whether you are doing more backpacking or car camping
(backpacking generally adds a bit to the expenses, as some of the foods
get more expensive).
