What an interesting topic! I have been a district
commissioner for only just one year. In that time, we
are currently on our THIRD DE! The first one (in his
30's) barely stayed a couple of months after our
district elections. He had his own way of doing
things (which included making up several Packs and
Troops out of thin air, which didn't truly exist).
That habit cost us quality district! He abruptly quit
to become a District Attorney for a small community to
the west of us.
The second DE (very young) again had his own way of
doing things. He had a habit of telling us, "Well I
don't like doing things that way. Here's how we're
going to do it now." The rest of the Key 3 got
progressively more and more disgusted, but never
thought to say anything to Council. He finally was
fired abruptly, shortly after Christmas break for
taking an extended Christmas vacation without
Our third DE (again very young)is trying really hard.
But he's having to cope with the messes that the prior
two left behind. I'm impressed with him. He's quick
to respond when contacted and fairly easy to contact
The Council has never offered any explanation of what
they look for in a prospective DE. They DID meet with
the Dist. Chair and I after they fired the second DE
to attempt to explain their reasoning. Of course,
because of privacy laws, nothing much was said.
We have a pretty large district and I often worry
about our DE burning out. I've discussed it with our
District Chairman and we are trying to work things out
to be of more help to our current DE.
Hope this helps.
