Nonprofit organizations gotta have money too. I imagine that shooting club
has a bank account, even fundraising projects -- just like a Scout unit. They
don't affect the nonprofit status. Likewise, if they sponsor a unit which has
some money in the bank and some fund-raisers, their nonprofit status
shouldn't be affected. If they are still leery, they could chip in enough
money to cover the full budget of the unit (that ought to scare 'em away!).

Up in Anchorage, there is a crew that specialized in the Biathlon
(cross-country skiing plus shooting). You could call the council
(907-337-9547, ask for a distinct exec) to get the name of somebody who knows
more about it.
