O.K. I got your attention. :)
I have just realized how odd some of the youth protection rules are. Let me
stop to say that I am not disagreeing with them or saying that we should
not follow them, just that I am running into an odd situation. Two of our
scouts, Dave and Joe (my son), have been best friends since 1st grade and
have come through scouting together from Tiger Cubs. Both will be seniors
this year. Dave is Eagle, and Joe is ready for his Life BoR. Dave turns
18 next month, Joe in April. Both will become ASM at age 18.
Here is the odd thing. Next month, for the first time in their life, they
will not be able to share a tent together on a campout. That will last
until mid April when Joe turns 18. (Except for the times that they attend
O.A. campouts when they CAN share a tent.)
One would be tempted to just let this rule slide because it seems so silly
to say that for just 8 months out of their entire life, they are not
allowed to share a tent. But I know that would be a bad idea.
Funny rules, but we should be following them.
