I'm not sure why this is the case. I have taken troops to both kinds of
camp. But don't understand why patrol method camps often aren't seen as
merit badge camps. This past week, my scouts earned 4 - 5 merit badges at a
camp with a dining hall...which is the same amount they earn at a camp where
they cook. Plus, when they cook on their own, younger scouts complete other
requirements and it offers me a teaching tool as well.
There may be lots of reasons to prefer one over the other...but I've never
understood how "productivity" of the boys is one of them. I've yet to see
boys more or less productive at one type of camp over another.
