scouts-l Mail Archive for July of 2000: Great, re-newing experience
Sun Jul 23 2000 - 08:40:07 CDT
I have been off the list several months.
I have just returned from assisting as an SA at Central Florida
Council's Eagle Week at LaNoChe "in" the Ocala National Forest. 85
Scout youth participated. Scoutmaster Ranger Dave did outstanding
preparation and support for what was basically a provo unit of Star and
Life boy-men who were Eagle wanna be. The tremendous positives of the
week overpowered the few, very few, attitude challenges. Those youth
left primed, pumped and excited.
Purpose of my post is to gather ideas and possibilities to bring into
the next unit-district meeting I attend. Scouting is a vast salad bar
of needs and opportunities. I want to carefully consider what part(s)
to put on my plate before I get in line for my second (or fifth???)
As such, after a 5-6 month hiatus and laying low with the troop my
son is with, I am exploring avenues of becoming reactivated. I was VERY
involved in the evolution of the troop in making it more boy run. Due
to a variety of situations, some good some difficult, I found it best
for all concerned for me to step way back after 2 years as a major
I've maintain fairly decent communication and relations with the
adults so it's not as if I'm the evil twin returning or anything....
I'll be attending the next meeting with my son to see what the Troops
I want to be helpful, but not a severely integral part of the
Troop's functioning and not in a spot where I am confronted with major
philosophical and behavioral differences directly or consistently.
I had shifted registration to a committee member before leaving, so
I have that avenue for assistance.
Helping with so many from different troops and cities also stirred the
coals from a previous stint in regard to a silver looped spot and I'm
open to suggestions in that regard.
So, I'd better strike while the iron is hot with enthusiasm and desire.
